On Valentine’s Day, Liverpool City Council launches a campaign encouraging people and businesses across the city to start their new relationship with the EU.
Over three months, the campaign, that has been co-created with Marketing Liverpool, Culture Liverpool and Liverpool Chamber of Commerce will support people to find out what they need to know to move forwards in their day-to-day lives and keep their business on track.
The campaign will have three strands:
- EU Nationals in Liverpool – Encouraging people to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme ahead of the 30 June deadline to #SecureYourStatus and #ProtectYourRights
- Businesses trading with the EU – Encouraging businesses to use the Growth Platform’s Post-EU Transition Support Service for local information as the city continues #ReachingOutWelcomingIn
- Wider Liverpool residents – Reminding people of changes to passport requirements, insurance, driving and travelling with pets as people #GetReadyToGo on holiday or want to study in the EU
The campaign will kick off with a special film celebrating Liverpool’s links with Europe and will move on to engaging with the city’s European Scousers to encourage all of them to obtain settled or pre-settled status through the EU Settlement Scheme.
Acting Mayor of Liverpool Cllr Wendy Simon said: “Liverpool has had a great relationship with Europe for many, many years. From football and tourism to our year as Capital of Culture, we have grown stronger and more confident thanks to the partnerships we’ve built and the friends we’ve made.
“And now we’re turning our attention to building a new relationship. So that the city can keep moving forward we’re making sure that everyone in the city affected by these changes has the information they need to continue in their every day life, whether that’s working, studying, travelling, or running a business.
“There are great new opportunities for the city to grasp – but one thing remains the same: Liverpool is, and always will be, a great European city.”
Paul Cherpeau, chief executive of Liverpool Chamber of Commerce, said: “For many businesses this has been an unprecedented period of challenging circumstances with the combination of Covid-19 restrictions and changes to our trading relationship with the European Union creating a perfect storm of difficulties to overcome. We know that it’s of paramount importance for people and businesses to have correct and authenticated information available to them from a source they can trust.
“The Growth Platform’s Post-EU Transition Support Service will be an invaluable additional resource for businesses adapting to the changes. I urge all businesses to use it directly or contact the Chamber for advice or information.
“Liverpool is an innovative and forward-looking city and its trading relationship with the European Union will continue to be important in the future pursuit of international opportunities. Enabling our businesses to prosper in global markets requires us to enable access for businesses to a wealth of expertise and experience which can help ensure we maintain and build upon the economic growth our city has experienced over the last two decades.”
