Liverpool Adult Learning Service to host further open days

Missed the Liverpool Adult Learning Service open days in July? Don’t worry there’re still more opportunities for learners to meet the team next month!

After four highly successful open days in July where the experienced ALS team and tutors met prospective students, there are four further days in September for learners to find out about upcoming courses.

All open days are run on a drop-in basis:

  • Tuesday 9 September – Newsham Adult Learning Centre, L6 7UH – 10am-2pm and 5pm–7pm
  • Wednesday 10 September – Park Road Adult Learning Centre, L8 6SE – 10am-2pm and 5pm-7pm
  • Thursday 11 September -Granby Adult Learning Centre ALC, L8 2TU – 10am-2pm
  • Friday 12 September -Norris Adult Learning Centre, L11 1DQ – 10am-2pm

Courses starting in September include: maths, English, ICT skills, catering, sewing, Arabic, business, volunteering and interpreting.

There are also formal qualifications in beauty, working with children, and supporting teaching and learning in schools.

The full course catalogue is available to view on the council’s website.

Many of the courses offered by the ALS are free if learners receive certain benefits, if they earn less than £35,864 a year, or if the courses are in English, Maths and IT. Other courses can also be paid for in instalments over three months.

The Liverpool ALS is rated overall as “good” by Ofsted with learners’ attitudes and their personal development found to be “outstanding” following a four-day inspection.

The ALS is funded by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and supports about 4,500 learners each year.

Cllr Joanne Kennedy, Liverpool City Council’s Cabinet Member for Employment, Educational Attainment and Skills, said: “It was great to hear about the numbers of learners who have already come along to open days to find out about September’s courses.

“We know that returning to the classroom can be a big step for adults so the open days are a fantastic chance to meet the team and to put your mind at rest about any concerns you might have. No question is too small for them to answer!

“Also, the team will be able to advise you about our Learner Support Service which has been designed to assist everyone to become a learner and can include transport, digital devices or childcare.”
